Here is a quote from the JHL article cited as the source in the AAP statement on breastfeeding. Below it are the two references indicated at the end of the paragraph in the JHL article.

Anderson PO. Alcohol and breastfeeding. J Hum Lact. 1995;11 :321-323.

"Alcohol is one of the most rapidly absorbed drugs known. After oral ingestion of alcohol, maximum blood levels are often achieved in 15 minutes or less. Alcohol likewise passes rapidly between the bloodstream and the milk. Milk concentrations of alcohol closely parallel maternal blood alcohol concentration at an equal or slightly greater level."

Kesaniemi YA: Ethanol and acetaldehyde in the milk and peripheral blood of lactating women after ethanol administration. J Obstet Gynaecol Br Commonw 1974; 81:84-6.

daSilva VA, Malheiros LR, Moraes-Santos AR, Barzano MAL, McLean AEM: Ethanol pharmacokinetics in lactating women. Braz J Med Biol Res 1993; 26: 1097-103.

A paragraph later, the JHL article (and references) says:

"The alcohol content of milk falls as the blood alcohol level falls because retrograde diffusion of alcohol from the milk back to the bloodstream occurs. Emptying the breasts (i.e., 'pumping and dumping') does not increase the speed of elimination of alcohol either from the milk or from the body as a whole."

Lawton ME: Alcohol and breast milk. Aust N Z J Obstet Gynaecol 1985; 25;71-3.

Anderson PO: Drug use during breast feeding. Clin Pharm 1991; 10: 594-624.
