mothers.
It seems to me there was some discussion on that there is evidence that DHA
in
an artificial means does not make an impact on the milk. Am I imagining
this? Any ammunition would be helpful. I flat out don't want to meet with
the
guy anyway!>>

Yeah -- there's a 100 year anniversary celebration for MJ posted at our
hospital. Sigh.

Anyway, seems to me the bottom line is that he needs to be able to produce
evidence that the increased DHA/ARA in the mother's milk that has been
increased by their supplements has, in fact, a positive impact on the baby's
cognitive and visual development (you know, the mind of a scientist and the eyes of
an artist). There were a series of three articles done between 1996 and 1999
(I think) that showed that while the supplements increased the DHA in the
milk, and subsequently in the baby's serum, it didn't do anything for the baby.
Don't have chapter and verse handy, but I think it is beholden on the part
of the rep to PROVE that there is an increase in the baby since the mother is
getting the supplements. And while you are at it, you could ask him to
prove that their $2/pill supplements improve the baby's cognitive ability better
than the mother taking cod liver oil or flaxseed supplements. You might also
ask him what the DHA RDA is for pregnant/lactating women.
