There is an article in the Star Telegram written in response to the
proposed Texas law limiting formula samples.

Notice the language, samples are "banished", implying victim status of
the samples/ formula companies. Also note that the author compares
limiting advertising to "banning" something, in this case disposable
diapers. There is a huge leap between limiting advertising to
vulnerable populations, and banning a product altogether. There is a
sense of the author feeling that her freedoms are being restricted,
when it is actually only formula marketers infringements which are
being restricted. She makes good points (but already oft stated) about
providing more accessibility to nursing moms but sees a limit to
advertising as "government interference", and "super-nanny
micromeddling". I wonder if she sees car seat laws in the same light?
What was most noteworthy, especially from the standpoint of a LACT-NET
reader was this line:
"It's not that formula generally is bad -- it's just that mother's milk
is optimum."
Not quite. This desperately needs Wiessinger-izing. This I believe
perfectly reflects the mainstream attitude toward breastmilk and
formula, and why advocacy efforts are so challenging.
