Hi, Jennifer:  You mentioned that when you held this baby prone he did some
sucking.  Has mom tried nursing him in the prone position?  This sometimes
helps, by moving everything forward and down.  If mom is not agreeable to
this, or baby is having a hard time latching, etc. in this position, I
probably also would go with a shield, in that it puts some structure in the
baby's mouth for him to work with.  Is there a therapist you could refer
this baby to?  Otherwise, hope that mom is sufficiently motivated and
patient to wait until baby grows into his jaw.
