I have a lady whom I am convinced has ductal thrush. I sent a note to her
doctor suggesting this and requesting she evaluate her for treatment. The
patient just called me to tell me that her GP told her that there was no
such thing as Ductal Thrush and that she just had engorgement (her baby is
7 weeks old, and a vigerous feeder) and should feed the baby for only 10
minutes and then pump until they were empty. Right...
Now I quietly got in a huff asked for the fax number of the doctor and told
her I would send them both some information about ductal thrush....Then I
dove into my books which I was sure would cover me only to find out that
Riordan (1993) and Lawrence (1999) doesn't mention it. Nor the new
breastfeeding answer book. Lots on nipple thrush but not one mention that
I could find on ductal thrush. I though I was loosing my mind until I hit
the Lactnet archives and finally exhaled after seeing the word Ductal
thrush (I had begun to think I had made it up somehow). Can someone,
please give me a reference that I can use for this lady.

Cheers,
Mandi Porta, RN, IBCLC
