When my boys were young my Romanian mother-in-law told me that she had a
neighbor who could hand express over 2 liters after feeding her own baby.
I don't know if this was each feeding or per day. She would share with
other mothers who didn't have enough milk or no milk. Unfortunately,I can
not question her about anymore details because she now has alzheimer's and
does not talk to us about anything, just smiles and nods and quilts.

She had the old myth ideas, too about breastfeeding, never wanted me to
nurse if I ate her cabbage rolls (makes baby too gassy) don't nurse with a
fever, and when I went away for a week, when my youngest was 2-1/2 years
old, she said I would not be able to nurse when I returned because my milk
would be sour. I said 'Oh no, Sia, it will not be sour." and she
said, "Yes, a doctor tell'm me this." Needless to say my little guy
attacked me when I returned and nursed all night long. Nothing wrong with
my milk.

Myself, I could pump 8-10 ounces from the left and 7-8 on the right if I
missed a feeding. My son did projectile vomit if he gulped through a
letdown without stopping. My first two never comfort nursed. 3rd one did
after I returned to work and my supply was tamped down by mastitis, and
spordic opportunities to pump when I was at work or just nursed him at
lunch time. Lots of nursing when I would get home and through the night.

Cheryl
