Dear Friends:
Jan Barger's post reminded me of a breastfeeding class that I was invited
to watch; the people that invited me were so proud that I was going to visit
a class taught by their 'best teacher.'
I was in shock by the end.
The nurse that taught the class had a theatrical quality to her that got
people's attention, especially when she talked about breastfeeding feeling like
'your nipples are being cut off' for a while. She got people laughing, but
never got them talking. She showed a decent breastfeeding film, and made
comments negating what the film was showing. She modeled and promoted a number of
products. There were rules about what one 'must' do when breastfeeding.
We have a long way to go......
    warmly,
