We have the problem back in our hospital: Inductions! Not only does
this lead to long labors, exhausted mothers and frequently, traumatized
babies, but it is the overwhelming fluid load that really causes
problems with breastfeeding. These breasts are engorged and nipples
flattened. Any latch is painful due to the fluid pressure and pumping
seldom brings forth colostrum release.
I have missed a lot of chatter on Lactnet over the last year due to
illness (my own) and I know this was discussed, but I can't
remember---is there a solution? (I mean, besides forbidding inductions).
