I am writing partly out of frustration with what is in the news lately and
wondering what is the latest status of the Ad Campaign.
There have been two recent news story that I feel are related to
breastfeeding. The first is the US government push to address obesity. Our dear friend
Thomas Thompson is heading this campaign but no where in the articles is there
any mention of breastfeeding helping to curb this problem or how formula can
be a cause.
Next, is a story I heard today. The AAP is now recommending that babies (I
do not have the youngest age up to 2 years old) be vaccinated against the flu.
They stated that this population is at the same risk as the elderly. Now, I
do not want to start a flood of posts on immunizations, I want this to be
about just this recommendation. Why doesn't the AAP recommend breastfeeding for 2
years to protect babies from these illness? Why is the public so into the
quick fix or the magic pill? Maybe because the pharmasuitical and formula
industry are so rich, and breastfeeding has no financial clout?
Is it true that the Ad Campaign will be delayed until the summer or fall and
be very watered down?
I just want to shake the common sense into some of these people in government
and AAP.
Sorry for the rant, off of my soap box but not my commitments.
