Perhaps this is the reference:
Hawthorne L, Slaymaker J, Bamber J, Dresner M, Effect of fluid preload on
maternal haemodynamics for low-dose epidural analgesia in labour,
International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia (2001) 10, 312-315.
A nurse anesthetist friend of mine noted that it was a relatively small
study, and the individual anesthetist/anesthesiologist must individualize
for each particular patient and her BP situation. But the article is
interesting, all the same.
On a like note, this article below mentions IV's in regard to spinals:
Park GE, Hauch MA, Curlin F, Datta S, Bader AM The Effects of
VaryingVolumes of Crystalloid Administration Before Cesarean Delivery on
Maternal Hemodynamics and Colloid Osmotic Pressure, Anesth Analg
1996;83:299-303.
