I was thinking last night that the CDC museum with its display on
breastfeeding needs an addition. I would be more than happy to provide that addition.
Its a notebook about 6 inches thick full of the patents on human milk
components. No museum about breastfeeding should be without such a display. The first
page would have to be a patent on using human lactoferrin to screen for cancer
with the US Department of Health being the one and only assignee.

Methods of screening for risk of cancer using human lactoferrin DNA probe or
primer

Abstract
The present invention relates to a human lactoferrin cDNA obtained from human
breast tissue and the protein encoded therefrom. The present invention
further relates to methods for detecting malignancy arising from tissues that
normally secrete lactoferrin using the cDNA gene probe of the present invention.
Another aspect of the present invention relates to the promotor region that
regulates the human lactoferrin gene.
