As I read what others have said regarding guilt and the Ad Campaign, I
remembered something announced from the American Cancer Society a few years ago.
There was a report indicating a risk factor for women that would increase
their likelihood of getting breast cancer was heavy drinking during their teens
and early twenties.
Now I was in my forties when I heard this report and initially it ticked me
off because there was nothing now I could do about what I might have done 20
years ago. Then I thought some more and appreciated the research and getting
the word out to the young women.
The American Cancer Society went forward with this announcement without any
apparent pressure from alcohol manufacture lobbyist or the out cry that women
would feel too guilty if this were released.
When we have knowledge of something helpful or harming, I feel it is more
unethical to withhold this on a basis of it might make one feel guilty.
