This doctor has no concept that breastfeeding is simply a normal feeding
behavior that a newborn should be able to perform. Until breastfeeding returns to
being percieved as simply the normal, physiological way that a human baby
eats, every baby that can't eat ( but can be bottlfed) will be considered 'fine.'
It's as if all children who cannot walk by the appropriate developmental time
frame would be given wheelchairs, because walking is too much trouble to
achieve, and the wheelchair will get them around "just fine". Walking is normal
locomotion, and in most cases, everyone's developmental goal. The same should be
true for (breast)feeding. Breastfeeding is just normal feeding, and any baby
who can't do it can't feed normally, and should not be discharged without
evaluation and follow-up.
