Dear Maureen,
Could you describe what the one FTE (I'm assuming several people) do in the
NICU at Brigham and Women's? I work as an LC at Packard Children's Hosp.at
Stanford. We hadve a 40 bed NICU, 20 bed stepdown unit and satellite nurseries in
several community hospitals. We have always done one on one consults in the
NICU, but now are told that we will be concentrating on helping moms to
establish a good milk supply in the first 5 days and then the staff will do the
breastfeeding support in the NICU. I know establishment of milk supply is critical
but so is ongoing support from an LC. I would very much appreciate your
feedback on this. For political reasons I cannot put it out to Lactnet right now. By
the way, many years ago I graduated from Mass General Hosp. School of Nursing.
