I BF 4, including twins during the 70s, and I also worked OB those years. Maybe things were different in your city/area, but I think more women fully vs. partially BF, support was often better and no one I knew was asked to leave for public (albeit discreet) BF. Even many/most of my non-LLL friends BF for several months. I do think there was more of an "all or nothing" feeling then, but part of that may have been do to the pitiful pumps available at the time...
