Dear Jan and all,
    Jan asked about mercury contamination with "removal" of mercury fillings.
 There has been this discussion of pros and cons in the archives.  What I
think needs to be considered is removal of amalgam fillings can mean full
"drilling" out the existing filling or removing a portion of it  in the
process of prepping a tooth for a crown prep or a repair.
    The point being.....any procedure that removes amalgam in the
process......mainly bicuspid and molar teeth......could theoretically free
mercury.  Suction/vacuums are usually used during the procedure as well as
isolating rubber dams.
    If every mom had to wean or pump and dump for this type of dental
procedure, I question the validity of that recommendation.  What should moms
do that need emergency or therapeutic dental procedures on teeth that have
mercury fillings? How many of you have had elective dental work without
considering this when BFing?
