"But he said parliament during question time might be an inappropriate
environment for infant children.

I have no objection to people breastfeeding in their workplace, I think
that's reasonable, he told reporters.

Whether or not, and I remember my own children when they were younger, I'm
not sure that I would want them fed during question time.

It's not exactly the most relaxing and comfortable of circumstances. I think
the real decision should be what is best for the baby."

So the woman parlimentarian being discussed, is intelligent, mature and
responsible enough to be elected to gov't, to represent the interests of
thousands of citizens, but she can't be trusted to make the best decisions
for herself and her infant???

I think this is the crux of our problem, that women are fundamentally still
not respected, and mothers are even less respected. No wonder we have
trouble breastfeeding.

And the fact that she is now embarassed and may have to miss sessions of
question period, will just increase the voicelessness of new mothers.

New mothers are a voice that is unheard in politics and in society in
general. That's why we don't get more support for breastfeeding. New moms
are just to damn busy and overwhelmed to complain. My province has a lot of
seniors - they are constantly on radio and writing letters to the editor to
complain about shortcomings of the health system that impact them. They
have the time, confidence and experience to complain. New moms lack all
three. That's why we must do all we can to support moms to make use of
their consumer voice, through sitting on health care committees, giving them
easy opportunity to provide feedback through surveys, complaint forms, etc.
