I was going to leave this one to the Asians on the list but haven't seen it
mentioned yet.

In Chinese cultures the young mothers are told that using fish to make soup
stimulates milk production. Choose a papaya, remove skin and cut into big
pieces to make soup with fried flathead (or any kind of fish). Add two
pieces of ginger because 'cold' can be removed by ginger in a postpartum
woman. Boil for 2 hours. Drink for 1-2 days after delivery.

My Chinese friend tells me that "lots of breast milk will be coming soon.
It is efficacy in some mothers. You will notice that they told you their
breast getting full. Milk supply may be better in some cases. No matter it
is efficacy or not, it is no side effect. I think it is alright to follow
our old mother tale."

She went on to say that using unsalted dried black beans in boiling water
to make a tea will suppress milk supply.
