Absolutely right. I wonder how many of us end up becoming an airing board
and so by encourageing the mum to express what happen, validate her
feelings, refering her to help with those who need it are also helping to
heal wounds unexpectedly. Most women do not want sympathy, but a shoulder
to cry on, an open heart that will listen and words that help to understand
how normal their feelings. They can not breastfeed their children again but
need to know as you have said, the health system failed them.

I wonder if these women should write letters to various health authorities
expressing their grief and stating that they do wish future mothers would
have every opportunity to avoid the grief they have experienced all these
years and would like to see upgraded health education of all HP's, the
adoption of BFHI in all hospitals, the world wide recognition of LC'c and
mother to mother support groups such as Le Lache and Australian
Breastfeeding Association? If the various medical groups, health authoritys
and hospitals recieved anough of these letters maybe they would begin to
re-evaluate the significance and vital importance of breastfeeding to
mother, child and society.
