Another update on the Mom with the very bad nipples. They are slowly getting
better and she continues to exclusively breastfeed with the shield. The
right nipple is healing quicker than the left and no longer has latch on
pain. She finished the oral antibiotic and now her OB is fine with the APNO
but the new problem lies with the Pedi.
Her Pedi told her she was uncomfortable with the use of the ointments even
though the mother described how little she uses and that it goes on only
4x/day, and she has the shield that prevents much contact with the baby's
mouth and the little ointment left at that nursing. The Pedi suggested she
apply Vit E oil to heal the nipples. Now she did not offer the mother any
references for this treatment and I told the Mom I was very uncomfortable
with Vit E even with the shield because a possible toxic build up of this Vit
in the baby.
Does any one have a good reference I could look at that supports this?
I called the Pedi and left a message. Will direct her to Dr. Newman's
articles.
Thanks,
