Dear Readers: I wanted to share the exciting news that we have successfully induced lactation with an adopting mother and brought her 7 week old adopting newborn to the breast w/o significant problem. Electric pumping and manual stimulation started 3 weeks prior to the baby being placed with the family; adopting mother had last breastfed 9 years ago; Mother's Milk Tea was also utilized. Milk supply is now the complete nutrition for the baby who is now 10 weeks old. The family plans to come to our OB Department in the new year and give a talk with the nurses and physicians. Even the social workers involved were very receptive and encouraging in the process. Yours in lactation, Debbie Colbert, RNC., IBCLC
