Eight week old baby makes a smacking noise with each suck, almost sounds
like a "kiss", and is sliding off the breast easily. Mom has strong let
down, and has commenced one sided feedings. Mom isn't in pain (could it
still be thrush?).

Most likely cause of smacking with the description given only and not
watching the feeding is either the baby is breaking suction with each suck
to protect himself from swallowing too rapidly or baby has not learned to
latch very well. With excessive milk production, baby does not need to
latch well, just be in the same room to get enough milk. Over time, poor
latch may decrease supply below baby's needs and should be corrected by
observing and correcting the latch as well as managing the milk supply. If
mom and baby are dealing with this fast flow and show no other signs, thrush
is unlikely.
