I serve on the board of the local community co-op, which had its harvest
fair this past weekend. I had been informed early in the week that one
of the managers was planning to put out free formula samples. I wrote
an extensive fax to her, explaining why it was important that we NOT do
that. I checked to make sure she received the fax.

On the morning of the fair, what should I see displayed front and center
but free formula samples? I found the general store manager and told
him we had a problem. I explained why we MUST NOT give out free formula
samples. I offered to show him the International Code of Marketing of
Breastmilk Substitutes*, which I happened to have brought with me. He
agreed to take care of the problem and immediately had the offending
product removed, before any attendees had a chance to see it.

*5.2 Manufacturers and distributors should not provide, directly or
indirectly, to pregnant women, mothers or members of their families,
samples of products within the scope of this Code.
