Well, after 6 babies and 12 years of nursing, it's happened to me!
Saturday, I was in a Wal-Mart portrait studio with my increasingly unhappy
six month old baby. I decided to try nursing him for a few minutes to try
to restore his spirits since his grandmother was desperate for a portrait of
him. The *female* photographer told me, "You can't do THAT in here! You'll
have to go to the bathroom." I told her about our excellent North Carolina
statute and let her know this was unacceptable. I reluctantly agreed to go
to the backroom since my baby was becoming very upset at the altercation.

Right after I left (without buying), I saw the manager come in and the
photographer talking to her in a very emotional way. Well, I turned right
around and went back to educate her, too. You wouldn't believe all she
said. She said it was a written policy from headquarters, then said it was
a Wal-Mart policy and they were just tenants. Then said she was trying to
protect me from perverts! Please! I told her I didn't see it as
protection, but as harassment. I was very polite and professional, but
firm, but they just couldn't see that they were doing anything wrong.
Arrggghhh.

I'll be writing letters, but unfortunately we're heading out of state
Wednesday for a national homeschool leadership conference and I don't have
time to organize a protest.
