Hear! Hear! Swaddling is useful in some situations. The bottom line is
that we have to teach the rules and the principles behind them to
parents. parenting doesn't lend itself to quick sound bytes (nor does
anything else in life, for that matter). I think the "back to sleep"
campaign is also such a sound byte campaign that is in many ways doing
a disservice to parents.
I include a "shpiel" about babies sleeping in each of my childbirth
courses. I may even spend more time on it than I spend on bf I find
that people have much less exposure to and knowledge of sleeping than
they do of bf, at least where I teach.
