For what it is worth, I don't have to be a member of any organization to
maintain my two nurse practitioner certifications from the ANCC or NCC. But
wait a minute. ILCA doesn't certify, only IBLCE does. They are close sister
organizations but not formally linked, as I understand it. Lots of overlap,
of course, but they are separate legal entities. And I don't believe you
have to be certified to join ILCA, only to be a voting member. Am I right? I
apologize if I have missed some obvious part of this thread.

organization, would it be an unreasonable step for ILCA to require
membership in order to maintain certification?

You would be differentiating between a certifying organization versus a
licensing entity, but might it be worth it?
