I do agree Barbara, but I would like to add my twopennorth(i'm from the
UK!). I realise that there are certain costs involved and not just for
'what you get for your money', but to have a 'professional' board. But I
can't help wondering if there be lower rates for certain catagories then
'perhaps' more people would join?? I don't know if this would happen, but
just for an example - If you are not in the US what *do* you get for your
money (sorry to put it down to this) - JHL (extremely good value), but
little else, no conferences etc. and even the articles in JHL have
predominantly a US bias (not their fault I know, but harder for UK people
for example to point to certain research) . We cannot charge for LC
services at the moment or very few people can for their services (other
issues here I know), because we have a 'free' health service and most LC's
work in it. I could go into more detail and raise more points. However
although I realise that there are 'country' catagories and subs are
accodinging to catagory, I just feel that a 'reduced' service and a
corresponding 'reduced' fee, *might* help to gain more members, I also
wonder if there can be 'other' catagories such as 'associate member' (i.e.
working in the bf field but not currently IBCLC, or perhaps working on it)
perhaps it would encourage a higher uptake on the accreditation, or perhaps
'student member' - many wouldn be members are perhaps training to be
midwives etc. and on very low pay (certainly in the UK) but would encourage
them in their studies and to 'qualify' and take up a higher rate.

Just a few thoughts anyway.

Pam
