We have a level 3 NICU and have used the sterile specimin bottles for as
long as I have worked here (over 14 years). They are plastic, but even
the moms of our micropreemies (and we've had survivors down to 13 oz
birthweight) have used these and there has been no concern about them.
They come sealed and mom opens them just before pouring her milk into
them. Moms are asked to use a new one for each pumping (milk from both
breasts collected at one time can be combined) even if she is getting
only a few dribbles.
