hi pam
i hope i am understanding your question so i give a reasonable answer. you
are right we assimilate our food and fluids, we convert them to calories
(heat and energy) and we lose insensible water. however...in a breastfeeding
pre/post feed weight also known as milk transfer assessment, i would
disregard this. in other words, weight the baby pre and post feed in the
same clothes and diaper (whether he has a dirty one on or pees or poos
during the feed) becoz in the relatively short time of the feeding, it
should not make much difference. the way i see it whatever he pees was
already in his bladder, same for his bowels. also realize that every scale,
even a top quality one, has a +/- margin of error, so very small milk
transfers may show as zero or even negative. hope this helps. please chime
in other experts if you think i am not on the right track with this.
