Pat Gima reports on a report....

This reminds me of something my mother told me which didn't make sense until
a few years into getting my nursing degree. (No, not my
breastfeeding/nursing, my RN). Anyway, she told me that women should never
wean in the summer because of their babies getting "summer diarrhea." Of
course, that would make sense back before good refrigeration when cow's milk
and the like was much more prone to spoilage -- especially if the ice all
melted in the ice box, and the ice man cometh no more.

The home we live in (built in 1898) used to have a "cold porch" on the side
of it. Lovely during the winter, but sweltering during the summers. Makes
perfect sense to me that no babies should be weaned during the summer. Do
you suppose we could resurrect that notion????

That means that babies in Phoenix could be nursed forever.
