Ann,
I think the thing to keep in mind is that the
feeding decision is not yours. You can give the
parents information and support, but they must
decide how they will feed their babies.
Do you have the sense that she wants to be convinced
to breastfeed, or that she wants your permission to
give up? Is there enough of a relationship with this
woman to ask her tht question point blank?

If you are coming away confused, it's because
you are getting mixed messages from the Mom
because she is confused. What would help to clarify
things for her, so that she can make the decision/
choice she needs to make? Again, your job is to
give her information and support and to be
clear that the decision is her responsibility.
