I am following a mother who has recently weaned her baby (last several weeks). She developed hypertyhroidism postpartum and has had a scan (we worked through that) and has been on thyroid meds. Her question to me was this: Her endocrinologist feels that the med is not adequate and is suggesting radiation. she has read somewhere that often post delivery the thyroid function will normalize and radiation is not needed. She is wondering whether hormones during breastfeeding might create the same scenario and should she wait a bit longer for hormones to "normalize" before she considers alternative treatment.

Thank you
