I believe the Mississippi Chapter of the March of Dimes has placed breastfeeding promotion and support as a definite priority. In the last few years they have provided funding for quite a number of breastfeeding-related projects, including: provision of breastfeeding professional resources for hospital and clinic staff in a 9-country district of the state; establishment of a breastfeeding mother's group that meets at a University teaching hospital in Jackson; and two grants to the Mississippi Breastfeeding coalition to fund the statewide "Breastfeeding-Friendly Site Project" which educates and recognizes worksites, childcare centers, churches, and clinics that meet breastfeeding-friendly criteria. Those of us who have worked with the March of Dimes have been well pleased with the open mind and commitment they have shown in improving breastfeeding rates in the state.
