Reading all of the discussion on selling the gel products to prevent sore
nipples reminds me of what happened at work one day. (Technically I wasn't
working so I didn't have my reference cards to hand to the mom.) This woman
came in looking for udder balm, we don't carry it. She was saying she
needed for sore nipples. I was telling her where she might find it but I
said many LC's and LLLL don't recomemend it since it has things in it that
really shouldn't be near babies. I showed her the lanolin and soothies and
asked if her nipples were just sore or if they were cracked. She replied
that she hadn't had the baby yet, but she knew she would stuff for sore
nipples.

I just felt like we still have so much work to do educating the public about
the causes and prevention of sore nipples. This woman was assuming she
would have sore painful nipples, as if it was the normal part of
breastfeeding. I felt very sad.
