Hi Leigh,
I realise you yourself are aware there is no problem (from your comments that the baby is doing well, and that the concern came only form the friend's advice).
   My response would be:
Just a moment, isn't this child getting *whole* milk, anyway? - *whole* breastmilk? The previous children were getting *whole* SUBSTITUTE milk. It would seem to me that this year-old baby is the one who is ahead, not the ones who had species-specific milk replaced by substitutes. It isn't logical that the "friend" thinks that bovine milk is needed for CNS development on the basis of fat content, when the fats are different from those in the real thing! Isn't it strange how community perceptions colour many people's idea of what is normal and healthy!
With a diet containing both breastmilk and what seems like a wide variety of solid foods, I can see why you are not concerned about this baby's health. I'm sure you'll do a great job of reassuring this Muma nd restorign her confidence.
       Cheers,

For the dietitians and nutritionally aware lactnetters:
I have permission to post about this case. Mother of a 12 month old nursing
infant with allergy to cow's milk protein and eggs wonders about her child
having a high enough fat intake. Baby nurses 4-8 times per day and drinks
soy milk from a cup at mealtime. As mother's prior children were drinking
whole milk and eating cheese at this age, she is concerned as to rather baby
is getting sufficient fat intake for nervous system development, etc. Baby
eats a variety of vegetables, grains and meats. Baby is generally
thriving--a friend's advice has caused the concern.
TIA for any input.
