Betsy: I haven't read this one, but just a comment about magazine articles:
It is not likely that Maryanne Neifert had any opportunity to give prior
approval to what was finally printed. They may have interviewed her or read
some of her writings. How they lifted phrases or sentences and used them in
their own article is their doing, not Dr Neifert's. Anyone who has written
anything for publication or been interviewed knows the "joy" of being
misquoted and misconstrued to fit the desires of the author / "researcher".
She may have no clue this article "quoted" her. You might send her a copy
as an FYI. Then it's up to her whether she feels it worth the financial or
legal effort to point out the error of their ways.
For the benefit of your doubting staff, show them Dr Neifert's actual words
so they can see for themselves what she really said. But then, there are
always those who will only accept that which proves their personal theories.
Don't waste your time on those who will not be budged. Focus on those who
will listen until the contrarians find themselves in the minority.
