When we asked to see the study, of course, she couldn't provide it.  But
she
did show us a fax from her source and it turns out the "study" was funded
by
R--- (duh) Labs and the fax was directly from the representative of that
company.  The El Paso Times was completely comfortable with printing the
story with ONE source!!!

Libby,
  I don't know how much letters and e-mails from all
over the country will make a difference in the El Paso
paper.
 It seems to me that, aside from anything else, this
is poor journalism. Where was the study published
usually newspaper articles mention, In this week's/
a recent study published in XX journal" in the article
itself.
Does the paper have standards for publishing news, accuracy,
confirmed by  more than one source etc. This isn't such
hot news that it couldn't wait to be confirmed by another
source.
This might be an approach to take with the journalist, her
editor and the paper as a whole.
