Anyone ever have a client/patient who is breastfeeding while using the
insulin pump for diabetes management? I'm wondering if my patient (hasn't
delivered yet) will need to adjust her basal or boluses around bouts. I'm
figuring a nursing bout would average 100-120 calories lost (about 1 -1 1/2
carbohydrate choices), which is small, but could still affect her blood
sugar. Also, does anyone know when the body (to paraphrase from my LC
course 2 yrs ago) becomes more efficient at digesting food and the net
calorie loss goes from 500 or so a day down to appx 100 calories lost?

I will have her test her blood sugar much more frequently and probably
before she nurses each time at the beginning, which will become very
inconvenient, I'm sure. (It will be great when diabetes can be managed more
conveniently.)

Any help is much appreciated.
