Its me again. I am a hospital based IBCLC. I truly believe in the benefits of
fenugreek and blessed thistle to increase milk supply (along with increased
stim and fluid intake, etc.) Because I am a hospital based LC, we are
STRONGLY DISCOURAGED from recommending herbs to our clients by the majority
of pediatricians as they are not FDA approved and there are no "evidence
based studies" to show that they are safe. It is frustrating for me to have
to say to these Moms that I cannot discuss herbs, especially after exhausting
all the other methods of increasing supply (prior to starting Reglan). My
thoughts are why go to Reglan when the herbs are available? My question
is-How do you other Lactnetters
"get away with" recommending herbs? I would certainly be reprimanded (again)
if I did! TIA Ann
