Dear fellow LNers: I need feedback about this 6 mo pp patient with the
profuse milk supply and the 82.4 ng/ml prolactin level 120 minutes post
nursing...Here is what the patient emailed me about her ob appt (her
internist IS concerned and writing an MRI referral)
" I mentioned the pituitary problem and she thought that there was no
problem. Her opinion was that a prolactin level of 800 should raise concern
in a nursing mother and not 80. She was not telling me what to do though
just giving her opinion. She told me to go ahead with the MRI but wagered a
dozen donuts on the outcome. "
I really want your input about this. I think the ob is thinking of normal
levels for a mom in the immediate postpartum period. Riordan and Auerbach
say that 44 ng/ml is the mean for moms 120 d pp. Please email me privately
as I'm once again 20 digests behind. TIA!
Warmly,
--
