This has come up a few times since I've been on LactNet and is in the archives. I do not mean to inflame here but simply clarify that I do not think it is a simple cause and effect situation. We wouldn't assume uneducated poor women breastfeed with no difficulties because LC's don't see them as patients. Rather consider that IF women are just likely and accustomed to seeking out assistance.

As has been said here before infertility has many causes - including male factors. And, 40% of IF is classified as unexplained infertility - meaning we don't know why conception isn't happening. It's not male factor and no physiologic female issues can be identified. The fact that all these women receive the same treatment (drugs and/or IVF) is simply a factor of how little is known, not an indication that they have the same problem. There are many women who receive these treatments and still do not conceive.

I have passed your question on to Rebecca Smith Waddell who writes for FertilityPlus and ICIID.com and will report her advice herein, but here's the link to her site http://fertilityplus.org/toc.html

and specifically info relating to PCOS, which may affect breastfeeding and does affect fertility.
