Eliz II gave birth to Charles in 1948, well past the days of chloroform.
Victoria had nine children, and it was her use of chloroform for one of her
births that helped popularize the notion. There was a lot of resistance to
the idea of pain relief for childbirth because of Eve's Curse in the Bible
that said women were supposed to suffer bringing forth children.
