Just got a call from a nurse in Intensive Care at the hospital where I work. A nursing mom of a six month old took an overdose last night of Tylenol and Vicodan. Her Tylenol level was > 100. Her doctor has her on Mucomyst which is to bind with the Tylenol and get it out of her system. The doctor is waiting for more information before he will let her nurse her baby. She is pumping every 3 hours with a double electric breast pump in ICU. Does anyone have information about Mucomyst? And what about the overdose effect of Tylenol? The half life of Tylenol is 5 hours according to Hale, which would on normal doses be okay by 5 half lives, 15 hours, but what about when she has taken an overdose?
What about the half life of Vicodan? They are waiting for me to find out more before allowing the little one in to nurse. Would appreciate a speedy reply if anyone is on line this afternoon and has this information. Thank you.
