Hello,
I am in contact with a friend in the UK who had a caesarian section for her
last baby about 15 days ago and has developed a wound infection. She is
exhausted. I would gauge that her exhaustion could be from having just had
major surgery and being a new mum and her obvious infection. She is on iron
supplements, antibiotics and pain killers.
Her baby is thriving and has put on 11oz since birth. I am a "mgs" person
myself but that sounds really good. The baby is doing the classic good
feeds during the day and then by 6pm starts to get more demanding and then
feed more frequently and up to hourly at night.
I have talked to her about correct attachment and by the sounds of it her
nipples were a bit sore and are ok now. He has been like this at night most
of the time and she is getting worried about her milk supply.
I feel that her supply is probably quite good (because of the weight gain),
but she must be exhausted and still unwell from her wound infection and
that will affect her supply.
Do you think that I should talk to her about galactogues or do you think
that as her infection settles (she has had the wound opened now, to let it
drain) that the baby will too?
If you think that galactogogues will work would someone let me know the
correct dose of fenugreek to take as a galactogogue. I have read in the
archives that 6grms daily is a dose but that the writer could not confirm
whether that was as a galactogogue.

thanks very much
best regards Sally Elmes
