An inflatable belt that goes around the abdomen may help women in labor
deliver with greater ease.  The new Labor Assister is specially designed to
benefit the growing number of low-risk, first-time mothers who receive
epidural analgesia for pain relief.  These women often have prolonged labor

Oh, this is perfect! Put the mother in a room w/ another piece of equipment.
Just like we do w/ all the helpless newborns. Not w/ a person, mind you, but
an object. Let's not bother to tell her that prolonged labor is usually the
result of fear, medical intervention or poor positioning of the baby (easily
avoided in pregnancy w/ some attention to posture, excercise and attitudes
about birth) and corrected in labor by a skilled midwife.
