Now I have to apologize!!!!! Gulp! I forgot to delete the Lactnet address
when I sent this to Leslie (which I didn't do, since I never replaced the
addy!). Believe me, I am completely done with this topic!!! Oh, the wonders
(not always!) of the internet.

feel about such issues, does not belong being discussed on LactNet.
And that is the issue - the original point being made had not much to do with
those other issues - they were being used for making a point. It was others
who took a single word/issue and took what they viewed as a different
opinion and felt the need to comment on that, when the discussion veered away
from breastfeeding and into nastiness. Our replies need to be either
carefully thought out or sent privately.

Leslie,
I am only sending this privately as I agree that this belongs off-list. It is
clear you feel I over-reacted, but I want to tell you that in the past, I
have responded about this same topic *only* in private. B/c it has come up
repeatedly, I responded to the list this time. I do believe that when people
who believe as Kathy does, (that I have no right to make an imformed decision
different from hers), such comments are intended to "educate" about their
position. It is devisive and opens a dangerous can of worms, b/c it sets up a
scenario in which it becomes assumed that such a position is the given and
only acceptable position of "educated" and "responsible" bf advocates. IMO,
it must remain clear that bf advocates of equal competency disagree on other
issues, otherwise it will become an expected part of the profession or even
the volunteer role to promote these other so-called public health positions.
(I do already see this in hospitals, clinics and WIC).
