For those who don't have the time to run off to La Leche League's admittledly
excellent article, here is a short statement from Pearl Shifer, IBCLC, who
worked for years with women with piercings, and talked to experienced NYC
piercers - gets right to the heart of the question I thought ...
" the nipple ring should be removed for nursing. However, the mom needs to
know that if the piercing is less than a year old, it may close up. But she
should still remove it for nursing..."
