When I said in my last post that I was so frustrated and doubting myself, I
just wanted to give you one more example. I have a client who has a
perfectly healthy, exclusively breastfed 3 week old baby. She weighed 6lb8oz
at birth and at 3 weeks is 7lb 2oz. She just began spitting up after each
feeding. Mom panicked and went to pediatrician who said she was obviously
overfeeding her. He told her she had to pump her milk and give her ONLY one
and a half ounces every 3 hours. Baby is screaming and mom said she feels
guilty but is putting her to breast just for 5 minutes after she drinks the
bottle. I told her that as long as baby was growing, stooling and wetting it
was as Dr. Jack so eloquently puts it "a laundry problem"! Explained the
supply/demand etc. The mom is relieved but still hates to go against her
doctor's orders.  This is my first experience with a DR. limiting feedings
on a 3 week old. UGGH! I'm trying not to rock too many boats here.
I am getting so discouraged because I feel like I am always (nicely)
contradicting the pediatricians. Today a mom called crying because she got
reprimanded for taking her 2 week old to the grocery store because babies
are fragile and have to stay inside for the first 4 weeks, avoiding all
people and especially grocery stores so baby doesn't catch anything. Where
is all this coming from?   Thank goodness I have all of you out there to
