Gonneke,
       You asked about sexual taboos during breastfeeding in some cultures.  This used to be the case, a few generations ago in Papua New Guinea (just north of Australia), though I understand the custom has disappeared.  As a result, babies are born closer together than used to be the case, I was told when I visited there in 1984.
       I'm not sure how long the taboo lasted, possibly for the duration of breastfeeding.  The society was polygamous, and I imagine this enabled the taboo to be accommodated.  I'm talking about the mainland;  I'm not sure about the other islands.
