Hi everyone,
I have been no-mail for awhile due to a new job schedule. I really need
your help with this situation. I am working with a first-time mom who has a
one month old baby. She told me she had implants but had colostrum from her
7th month on. The baby latched right away and has been nursing but the mom
has been experiencing pain the whole time. Her symptoms sounded like yeast
to me. She has trouble with chronic vaginal yeast but she and baby show no
"typical" signs of yeast according to her doctor. The pain is described as
burning and it gets worse during the feeding. She has been pumping and her
production is low-her maximum amount has been two ounces (1 per side) even
when she waits 3-4 hours. Now she tells me that she also had
reconstruction with the implants due to (she thinks) tubular breasts. She
thinks her nipples were detached but isn't sure as this was 10 years ago.
Now her doctor thinks that only some of the ducts are intact and the
pressure is building up behind the tissue. He told her she could stop
nursing or keep it up and hope that the ducts that are working will be
enough. She loves breastfeeding but the pain is intense and she has only
had two or three feedings where it doesn't hurt. I know her milk supply is
decreasing despite fengugreek and frequent pumping. I really don't know
what to tell her on this one. So, wise ones, will her pain gradually
decrease? I know she could continue to nurse and supplement but the pain is
hard for her. Her sister just had a baby also and it's going well so she's
extra upset. Please respond soon because she is desperate. TIA,
